Taupo Eastern Arterial
Client: Fulton Hogan
The completion of the East Taupo Arterial was a historical milestone for the Taupo district. The project, which had been in the pipeline for over 40 years, was delivered five months ahead of schedule.
Culham Engineering worked collaboratively with the Fulton Hogan project management team to produce the best methodology for the erection of the two bridges for this project. This included using special lifting gear to install the 400 tonne arch bridge for the Broadlands Road overpass and installing the other 700 tonne, 500m Waikato River Bridge in sections.
The 100-metre, 200 tonne bottom chord and outriggers of the bridge were pushed into a temporary position over the river. A month later, the arches were manoeuvred into place and the 394 tonne main bridge was lifted into its final position using our 400t Liebherr crane
